Cindy Alexander: It is a pleasure to join you today.  MorphoTrak is a subsidiary of Safran USA,  and provides biometric and identity management solutions to the U.S. and Canadian markets.  We have over 35 years experience in security solutions, having been formed from the merger of Sagem Morpho Inc. and Motorola's biometric division, Printrak. The combination provides industry-leading capabilities and a powerful platform on which to build in the future. This combined team has the global presence and focused resources to offer world-class identification products and solutions to national, state and local markets.

As for my background, I have over 30 years experience in government and business identity solutions with specific expertise in identity management solutions for government, secure document technology, and solutions development. I have worked for over 5 years with MorphoTrak on Civil Identity Solutions, bringing the best identity and biometric solutions available worldwide to the US driver’s license, passport, healthcare and social services market.  I currently lead MorphoTrak’s civil business development, focusing new products on US identity issues and bringing our worldwide expertise to North America.  

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: One will read on www.morphotrak.com  that your company, “… is the world leader in multibiometric technologies for fingerprint, iris and facial recognition, and an acknowledged expert in identification systems.”  Please give us an overview of your product line.

Cindy Alexander: MorphoTrak and its global parent Sagem Sécurité – also part of the Safran group - are leading innovators in large fingerprint identification systems, facial and iris recognition, as well as secure identification cards and passports. We employ over 450 persons in the U.S., with headquarters near Washington D.C., major corporate facilities in Anaheim, CA and Tacoma, WA, and regional facilities throughout the U.S. We manufacture proven hardware and software products that have been deployed around the world.  From kiosk capture stations and facial and fingerprint scanners, to mobile identity verification terminals, MorphoTrak provides the essential building blocks and systems integration that enable its customers to effectively deploy, manage, and support the identity life-cycle processes of its stakeholders.   We productize these into end-to-end identification solutions for law enforcement, border control, civil identification, facility/IT security and access control.

Cindy Alexander: We are #1 in identification solutions for law enforcement and public safety, and we are actively engaged in the civil Identity Management market. We serve the following key areas:

There are several key drivers for MorphoTrak’s solutions during these challenging economic times.  Paramount is the ability of our secure identification products to keep our communities safe, reduce costs by preventing fraudulent enrollments, and enhance citizen privacy while deterring identity theft.  These benefits justify investment in identification solutions, especially in challenging economic times.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: Are here one or two success stories you’d like to talk about?   

Cindy Alexander: One story I would like to talk about is how secure identity solutions can affect the economic and political direction of countries.  For example, under the leadership of our parent company Sagem Sécurité, we recently developed and implemented an end-to-end identity solution for Albania. This country faced European Union demands that their identity documents be improved before they could be considered for membership.  Our solution with 410 enrollment sites and centralized document production allowed Albania to successfully meet the EU’s demand and begin the membership process.  We provided everything in that solution, from enrollment site staffing to the documents and personalization software.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: We understand that you will be speaking at the Secure Documents Conference. May we have an overview of the subjects, themes and trends you will be discussing?

Cindy Alexander: I will cover issues related to identity card fraud and new 1st level card security features available today.  Included in the discussion will be advanced security features that use tilted laser technology—Changeable Laser Image (CLI) and our own patented 3D Photo ID™  as well as Kinegrams®. I will also provide strategies to make these features more valuable by combining them.  Finally, I will discuss the use of biometrics including both facial and finger images to bring higher security to the overall enrollment process as well as the document itself.

SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: Thanks again for joining us today, Cindy. Are there any other subjects you would like to discuss?

Cindy Alexander: Even with the most secure credentialing systems, the human factor in identity enrollments and the use of unsecure documents like birth certificates and social security cards can defeat our efforts to secure identities. These “breeder” documents are the next frontier, needing the same security efforts as those expended for passports, drivers’ licenses, health card and other social services programs.  Much the way credit cards have real-time fraud detection technologies today, we also offer fraud detection systems to oversee any identification system. In any case, the way to secure identity must constantly adapt to keep ahead of the forgers and counterfeiters.
