Mr. Ram Ramaprasad
Director of Product Management

Zebra Technologies Thank you for joining us today, Ram.  Before discussing Zebra solutions and ASIS 2015 in greater detail please tell us about your background.

Ram Ramaprasad: Currently I am the director of product management for Zebra Identity Solutions. I am responsible for globally managing our identity solutions portfolio, including tracking market dynamics, developing new solutions and increasing revenue. Before joining Zebra, I was the director of product management at 3Com for its Converged Communications Solutions group.  Prior to that, I held various leadership positions at Avaya, Inc., Lucent Technologies and AT&T Bell Laboratories. I received an MS degree in Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark and an MBA with a concentration in International Business from Columbia University in New York. We understand that Zebra will be participating at ASIS 2015. What is your perspective regarding the major themes to be discussed at ASIS  this year regarding cloud, mobility and IoT?

Ram Ramaprasad:  Gartner has identified mobility, cloud services and the Internet of Things (IoT) as major disruptive trends across industries. In addition to transforming the supply chain and business operations, these trends will also impact businesses’ security plans.

Fueled by invaluable data streams generated by connected devices, mobility and cloud applications, businesses of all sizes are becoming smarter about their assets, people and transactions. Zebra’s solutions help companies streamline and improve workflows through transforming the physical to digital. Customers gain deeper insights into the status and location of their assets, enabling real-time decisions and actions, anytime and anywhere.

We are exploring opportunities to leverage these technologies across a variety of verticals such as healthcare, manufacturing, retail and transportation and logistics. For example, we are working to increase safety in schools, better protect intellectual property for businesses and ensure accurate delivery of healthcare products and services to improve patient care. Please give us an overview of Zebra solutions.

Ram Ramaprasad: Zebra offers customers a complete end-to-end solution—from mobile computers and barcode scanners to specialty printers, RFID, software and services—for identifying, tracking and managing critical assets, people and transactions. Zebra also offers Wireless LAN (WLAN), location and motion sensing solutions as well as the Zatar platform, the world’s first IoT platform for enterprise applications.

Our solutions leverage these technologies to address specific pain points in select verticals. For example, we offer an advanced security solution to enterprises that also enhances the customer experience.  This solution includes custom designed RFID cards for tracking assets, scanners for capturing data in the cards, card printers for customizing end-user information and location-sensing software for providing real time data on the end users with the cards. Are there any new solutions you would like to talk about?

Ram Ramaprasad:  Zebra’s strategy is closely aligned with the leading trends of mobility, cloud solutions and IoT. Most recently, Zebra introduced Mobility DNA, a comprehensive collection of enterprise mobility software solutions. This solution set is designed to drive greater efficiencies and productivity for businesses through the use of innovative applications, hardware and software. Included is App Gallery, an enterprise mobile app marketplace allowing efficient management of mobile apps on Zebra’s Android-based mobile computers. Mobility DNA allows businesses to maximize enterprise asset intelligence by streamlining the adoption process for mobility solutions, improving productivity and increasing operational efficiencies.  Zebra truly has an impressive track record  - are there any particular success stories, “wins” or customer voices you would like to talk about?

Ram Ramaprasad: We have several key case studies that demonstrate Zebra’s ability to make businesses smarter.

Beginning in 2014, Zebra partnered with the NFL to track players’ speed, position, acceleration and distance in real time using the Zebra Sports Solution. The NFL collects data for game and practice session analysis to better understand and improve overall player performance. Zebra is investigating how this technology can also be easily applied to a warehouse, retail floor or a high security transportation hub.

Businesses across a variety of industries are using Zebra solutions to create more efficient processes. Vail Resorts, one of the world’s largest ski resorts, uses Zebra’s RFID card passes, RFID readers and card printers to identify and track their guests’ skiing performance and have this data integrated into a complete Vail EPIC card pass experience. Guests can access all this information from their mobile devices and share their experiences via social media.

Several leading U.S. universities have also reported significantly reduced wait times for student ID card issuance with our card printing solution. We also have solution deployments in the government sector for identity and e-government applications, including driver’s licenses and other permits.

In all of these cases, we partner with our reseller and ISV community to better understand, build and deploy solutions that meet customer needs. Thanks again for joining us today, Ram.  Are there any other subjects you would like to discuss?

Ram Ramaprasad: Zebra’s strategy focuses on helping our customers transform their business by offering actionable enterprise asset intelligence. We collaborate with our channel partners to provide value for our mutual customers. Our extensive portfolio of solutions give real-time visibility into everything from products and physical assets to people, providing very precise operational data not only about where things are, but what condition they are in. This allows business leaders to use data to make better, more informed decisions, respond in real-time and ultimately, help businesses understand how they work, and how they could work better.
